RECALL TIMELINE (Updated as Needed) ...
On or about February 27, 2007: Menu Foods notifies the FDA that several dogs and cats died after a taste test and some consumer complaints around February 20, 2007. Consumers claim Menu Foods was receiving complaints back in December 2006.

March 16, 2007: Menu Foods announces recall of numerous dog and cat food products.

March 24, 2007: Menu Foods expands recall to all products on the recall list regardless of manufacture date.

March 30, 2007: Nestle Purina Petcare Company announces a voluntary recall of all sizes and varieties of its ALPO(R) Prime Cuts in Gravy wet dog food with specific date codes. The company claimed the contamination occurred in a limited production quantity at only one of Purina's 17 pet food manufacturing facilities. Purina's 5.3-ounce Mighty Dog(R) pouch products, manufactured by Menu Foods, were previously withdrawn from the market as a precaution on March 16 as part of the Menu Foods recall.

March 30, 2007: Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. announced it was instituting a voluntarily recall of Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry food from the market. Hill's claimed it too had purchased wheat gluten for this product that was provided by a company that also supplied wheat gluten to Menu Foods. U.S. Food and Drug Administration tests of wheat gluten samples from this period show the presence of a small amount of melamine.

March 31, 2007: Del Monte Pet Products announced it was instituting a voluntarily recall of select product codes of its pet treat products sold under the Jerky Treats®, Gravy Train® Beef Sticks and Pounce Meaty Morsels® brands as well as select dog snack and wet dog food products sold under private label brands [which include] Ol' Roy dog treats and canned dog foods, Dollar General dog treats and Happy Tails dog treats and canned dog foods.

April 3, 2007: Menu Foods expands recall of selected "cuts and gravy" products manufactured as far back as November 8, 2006.

April 4, 2007: FDA issues a directive to detain and not release any wheat gluten products coming into the United States from a Chinese company, Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology Development Co, Ltd.

April 5, 2007: Senate Investigation is announced.

April 12, 2007: Senate Oversight Committee begins the hearing processes, investigating the FDA and the Manufactures.
